Life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by so quickly you hardly catch it going.
~ Tennessee Williams
It’s been one year since I launched Anne Charlotte Photography: A Photo Journal.

I never thought I’d have a blog. I hadn’t ever considered myself much of a writer or thought I had much to say.
Over the year, my blog has evolved into something I hadn’t actually expected. When I decided to create this space, my intent was just a simple series of photo galleries displaying some of my favorites of the many pictures I have on my camera roll. I never intended to write much — maybe post something once in a while.
I launched my site with nine photo galleries, an About Me page and one post: Why I Take Pictures.

Now, reading through that post written one year ago, I thought, yeah, this still feels accurate. And also, why was I so wordy? It’s a bit TL;DR!
Once I launched my site, I immediately received favorable feedback on that first post. I kind of liked writing it, so I decided maybe I’d publish something regularly. For the most part, I’ve posted once or twice a week — well, until life got in the way.

Now, a year later, Anne Charlotte Photography is visible enough that people wander across my site from internet searches, and I even have a very modest little group of nine subscribers, which is pretty cool.
In one year, I’ve published 65 posts, including this one. Not too shabby.
Very Brief Stats
Most Popular Post: From Mannahatta to Manhattan: A Changing Landscape

I wrote this one pretty early on in the life of my blog.

I have no idea why it was so popular. I guess people really like Manhattan!
Least Popular Posts: It’s a tie, actually.

One sad little peek for each.

Honestly? Looking through what I’ve published, I have a few favorites, a few “meh” and a few that made me wonder why I thought that would be a good thing to write about.
I’ll tell you about a couple of my favorites and let you speculate about the rest.
Favorites:
December Snow: I love this one because of the feeling I get when I read it — remembering the first snowfall of winter, how excited I was — so much so that I got up and pulled on my boots at 7 a.m. to go out and walk around in it. I remember how beautiful, soft and blue the early morning light was, and how pretty the Christmas lights looked reflecting on the thick coating of snow on the little spruce tree. I remember how still and peaceful it was — just me and my beloved Maggie, the only sounds the crunch of snow under my boots and the occasional tinkle of tags on her collar.

The Wild Horses of Assateague Island: This is a favorite post because of where the subject is set. I’ve loved horses since I was a little girl, and going to this beautiful wild barrier island to look for horses roaming freely among the sand, dune grass and woodland areas was a special experience — made even more special because Luke was with me on that little road trip.
Assateague Island is a great place to visit on its own, but being able to turn around a bend or crest a dune and see a group of wild horses makes the whole place enchanting.
