This collection is a departure from my usual nature-based photos, but I love it because it reminds me that beauty can be found anywhere – even in unexpected places. Each of these photos came from a moment when I happened to glance out a window, step out of a building or turn a corner and was stopped in my tracks. I’d take in the scene, then raise my camera and try to capture the detail that had caught my attention.
I’m drawn to the way sunlight softens things that might otherwise look harsh, ordinary, or otherwise unremarkable – like a sunrise over a construction site. I also love the contrast of natural beauty against man-made structures, whether its a soft sunset over the Manhattan skyline or the island of Manhattan glowing in the pale morning light from and early flight out of LaGuardia.
