As much as I seek out earthbound beauty, I’m definitely fond of stargazing on a clear night to marvel at the infinite number of stars, look for satellites drifting among them and, if I’m lucky, the occasional meteorite. I took these Milky Way photos on Block Island on one of those very clear nights during a new moon. The Milky Way is visible in the sky as a hazy strip, but when I pointed my iPhone camera at it with a long exposure, I got an amazing detailed look at the billions of distant stars, cosmic dust, and nebulae.
