It snowed yesterday – the first of the season! Just a few passing showers that didn’t stick, but still beautiful all the same.
Luke (my son) and I were at the gas station. He was filling the tank, and I was sitting in the car, watching the snow. The soft, slow fall of the snowflakes looked so pretty and peaceful against the deep green of Eastern Cedar trees, so I decided to try and take a picture. As I was doing so, I realized I had also captured Old Glory, visible through the break in the trees, fluttering in the breeze.
I thought – how appropriate. Today is Veteran’s Day.
Veteran’s Day originated as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War 1 – at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Coincidentally, it was right around that same time of day that I took this photo, the American flag drifting on the breeze through the trees in the snow. Today, Veteran’s Day honors all who have served in our military, in both wartime and peace. So, to all of our veterans – this photo is for you. Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you!
